First, he is 84 years old.
Second, he is starring in a one man, singing and talking show that runs for 90 minutes without an intermission every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday (twice on Sunday) at Theater J. He is never at rest in this show. He is himself, he is Sholom Aleichem, he is Tevye the Milkman. 90 minutes, no intermission.
Now we saw Bikel on New Years Eve at Theater J at a special concert that started at 10 p.m. and ran until just before midnight. There were two musicians, Bikel and one other vocalist singing largely European folks songs. Bikel probably was involved in 75% of this show (also without intermission). And…..he did it after completing his 90 minute one man show! And then, at 12 or so, he came to the Theater J post-show party, and looked just fine.
I repeat. Theodore Bikel is 84 years old. But that’s a secret. Whatever you do, don’t tell him.
