Yesterday, the Washington DC area was under a high wind alert all day. At about 10 a.m., a tree across the street fell, missing people or cars, but knocking down some wires, which fell over the street. I think the wires were cable wires, not electric wires, but I am not sure. When the tree fell, we called both the police and PEPCO. The police closed the street and, shortly after nightfall, the tree was chopped up and carted away and the street re-opened.
No one lost power, not us, and not the houses across the street to which the wires ran. That’s why I assumed they were TV cables.
We went out with friends last night and, very late for us, it was about 2 a.m. when we went to sleep, assuming we could sleep late this morning.
At 6 a.m., the phone rang. With (normal nighttime telephone) trepidation, I picked it up, only to hear a recorded message from PEPCO, telling me that all repair work had been done, and if there were any remaining problems, I should call.
6 a.m. on New Year Day. Happy New Year from PEPCO.
